What is feminism By Idris Tauheed

There is an adage which says, what is good for the geese is also good for the gander. But before I move on, I would like to quickly add more to the meaning of "feminism" by saying women also deserve equal rights to education, political position, and the same right as men in a country working force. I must advocate for their rights for many reasons as follows:
In some families here in Nigeria, many females are not given equal rights to education as their male counterparts because we think women's education ends in the kitchen or in their husbands' houses and for this reason, many parents have failed to give their daughters the quality education that they deserve from them instead, many of them are sent to learn business, hand work or stay at home. I'm not saying it's a bad idea to learn a hand work but it's also good to go to school. I mean there shouldn't be a discrimination between the two sexes or a female child should not be seen as an inferior to a male child at the time of bringing them up in one roof.

In political appointment, post or civil position, women are considered weak and as such, can't be made a president of a country. We think women can't rule us but they are only good at the management of the house. But then, we have people like Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala who served twice as Nigeria's Finance Minister and also as Minister of Foreign Affairs. She was the first female to hold both positions, Mrs. Amina Jane Mohammed is a Nigerian politician who is the current Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Sirleaf was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011, alongside Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkol Karman for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work. She was elected President of Liberia in 2005 and oversaw a reign of uninterrupted peace in Liberia for 12 years. She stepped down from the position in October 2017. Therefore, if these people were not given equal rights to education in their societies, their names won't have been mentioned here in the first place and the nation at large won't have benefited from their positive impact on the life of their people. Thus, they have contributed greatly in the building of their states and have proven to the whole world that women are more effective in power than their men counterparts who abuse power in government.

In conclusion, I urge new parents and guardians who have female children under their custody should not only educate them but also support them in becoming someone in life hence if you educate one female child is as if you had educated the whole nation.
