DANGOTE AND HIS KINNUPE RICE MILL
The Sad Stories of KinNupe: An AnthologyBy Ndagi Abdullahi Amana Nupe
One day, so the story goes, Alhaji Aliko Dangote just woke up and asked his thinktank to get him the best place to build the largest rice mill in Nigeria.Dangote’s thinktank did their research and came up with their report recommending KinNupe as the most fertile rice-planting place in Nigeria and therefore the best place to build the largest rice mill in Nigeria.
Dangote came down to Niger State, met with the Governor and the relevant Royal Fathers and sealed a deal to build the largest rice plant in Africa in KinNupe.
Dangotealso said that he will empower thousands upon thousands of Nupe women in the rice farming communities of KinNupe with soft loans and survival funds.
But just when Dangote was putting the finishing touches to his plans… …. your people, our co-tenants, went and convinced Dangote not to invest one Kobo in KinNupe.
So, one day, the story goes, Alhaji Aliko Dangote just woke up and said he is no more interested in building any rice mill in KinNupe again.
KinNupe has been deprived of billions upon billions of Naira of annual revenue from Dangote’s investment.
Dangote went to Kebbi and built a comparatively small rice mill there. But the Kebbi rice farmers are always secretly coming back to KinNupe to buy all the rice they take to the Dangote rice mill in Kebbi.
We Nupe people are trapped in a Niger State infested with virulently jealous peoples. If we don’t realize this before 2023, ‘Sorry’ or ‘Kasa re!’ will be the name of ‘KinNupe’.
