With the number of reported cases every day about rapes, we can't just be watching just like that without finding a solution to it. I have read so many good write up on Facebook advocating on justice for the victims. Well, it's nice we stand against rape and make sure the rapist is prosecuted. However, the question here is what are the causes of rape and what is the solution?
Base on my research, I noticed that majority of the victims are girls ranging from the age of 16-19. They are four times more likely to be a victim of rape or sexual assault and female college students between the age of 18-24 are three times more likely to experience sexual assault too. This is as a result indecent dressing.
They dress with tight clothes, every part of their bodies is exposed to the public. They look so attractive to men in such a way that any man that sees them would like to have a canal knowledge of them.
In the United States, 70% of rape is committed by someone whom the victim knew.
Nowadays, music and films also seem to be promoting pornography. For example, Nigerian films and music industries have really contributed to it hence these industries are fond of acting in a pornography style. There are songs that are describing women private parts, and it has a video that shows the picture in action to the viewers. E.g. Story of the gods by Olamide and it's not only him because there are many of such musicians and the government seems to be deaf and blind to it. Even the children of nowadays know what sex is all about. They see it in films or it is also described in songs. That is why the level of discipline in our society is very low. The children no longer respect their parents and elders again.
All these immoral musics and videos need to be censored and if found against our culture, it should be banned immediately because it has contributed to this act a lot because it also makes some men think negatively.
The government should create an organization that will checkmate the activities of this industries.
How do I protect my self from rape?
-First and foremost, one should dress decently.
-Avoid mingling with men.
-Never work alone.
Islam has made it obligation upon Muslim women to dress decently. See Qur'an 33:59 where Allah the Most High said; "O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful."
This verse is clearly telling that you have to dress decently.
Allah the Most High had warned both men and women and said "Don't come close to Zina (Furnication/Adultery)"
How do we stay away from this?
Women should dress decently and men should lower their gaze.
Stop mingling with men for it disvalues you and that will give them the chance to do whatever they like. Respect yourself. See yourself as a queen you are. And I promise you, you shall be safe. Insha Allah.
Never walk alone.
Don't go far or a kilometer without being in accompany of others such as your close relative (your blood brothers, husband, or father).
By following these rules, I have 80% assurance that you will be protected. Insha Allah.
